They are the only point of contact between your car and the road, affecting braking, steering, grip, ride quality and stability. At HLX Performance, we offer professional tyre supply, fitting and balancing using the latest equipment, with honest advice to help you choose the right tyre for your car and how you drive it.

Based in Wimborne, Dorset, we can source and fit a wide range of tyres — from affordable everyday options to premium performance tyres and even track-focused rubber.

Modern Tyre Fitting & Balancing Equipment

We are equipped with the latest tyre fitting and wheel balancing technology, allowing us to work safely and accurately on everything from small daily drivers to large diameter performance wheels and low-profile tyres.

  • Safe fitting for low-profile and performance tyres
  • Accurate dynamic wheel balancing for smooth driving
  • Care taken with alloy wheels and finishes
  • Correct torque settings on refit

Correct balancing is essential to prevent steering vibration, uneven tyre wear and premature suspension wear.

Tyres to Suit Every Budget & Use Case

Not every driver needs the same tyre. We can source tyres to suit your vehicle, budget and driving style — whether you’re commuting daily, enjoying spirited driving, or preparing a car for track use.

Budget Tyres

Budget tyres are designed to offer a cost-effective solution for everyday driving. They are suitable for low annual mileage vehicles and gentle driving styles.

  • Affordable option for daily commuting
  • Compliant with UK safety and legal standards
  • Best suited to lower-powered vehicles

While budget tyres meet legal requirements, they typically offer less grip and longer stopping distances compared to premium options.

Mid-Range Tyres

Mid-range tyres offer a good balance between price and performance. They are a popular choice for drivers who want dependable grip and longevity without the cost of premium brands.

  • Improved wet and dry grip
  • Better braking performance than budget tyres
  • Good all-round option for most drivers
Premium Performance Tyres

Premium tyres from leading manufacturers offer the highest levels of grip, safety and refinement. These tyres are engineered with advanced compounds and tread designs to deliver predictable handling in all conditions.

  • Shorter braking distances
  • Excellent wet-weather performance
  • Ideal for performance and premium vehicles
Track-Focused & Semi-Slick Tyres

Track-focused tyres and semi-slicks are designed for maximum grip and consistency under high temperatures. These tyres are ideal for track days and performance builds.

  • Exceptional dry grip
  • Consistent performance during track sessions
  • Requires correct setup and alignment

We’ll advise on road legality, suitability for your vehicle, and supporting setup such as alignment and suspension.

Full Track Slicks

Track slicks offer the highest possible grip but are intended for circuit use only. They require careful setup, temperature management and are not road legal.

  • Maximum dry grip
  • Track-only application
  • Used for competition or advanced track driving

Tyre Safety – When Tyres Need Replacing

Driving on worn or damaged tyres is dangerous and can dramatically reduce grip, increase stopping distances and raise the risk of tyre failure. During fitting or inspections, we will always highlight any safety concerns.

Low Tread Depth

The legal minimum tread depth in the UK is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre. However, performance and wet-weather grip reduce significantly well before this limit.

For safety, we typically recommend replacing tyres before they reach the legal minimum, especially on performance vehicles.

Cuts, Cracks & Sidewall Damage

Cuts or cracks in the tyre sidewall can weaken the structure of the tyre. Sidewall damage cannot be repaired and may lead to sudden failure if ignored.

Bulges & Deformities

A bulge indicates internal damage to the tyre’s structure, often caused by pothole or kerb impacts. This is a serious safety issue and the tyre should be replaced immediately.

Exposed Cords

If the internal cords of a tyre are visible, the tyre has failed structurally and is unsafe to drive on. Continued use can result in a sudden blowout.

Tyres & Vehicle Performance

The right tyre choice can transform how a car feels. Grip levels, sidewall stiffness and compound all influence steering response, braking performance and ride comfort. We’re happy to advise on tyre selection based on how you actually use your car.

  • Daily driving and commuting
  • Fast-road and spirited use
  • Track days and performance builds
